Abstract:
Ineffective communication in the operating room is an important factor that can creates errors. In addition the fast and demanding rhythm of operating room can cause communication problems. Lack of communication beyond patient safety affects productivity and decision making among employees. The aim of this study was to investigate the factors that influence the communication in the perioperative environment. Methodology : Review and research studies were searched in the international database «Pubmed» which was related to perioperative communication. Results: Poor communication in a perioperative environment affects patient safety, staff satisfaction and effective making decision. The lack of communication can lead to surgical delays in patient dissatisfaction and serious errors, affecting its operating procedures. Eliminating errors that occur in the perioperative environment can be achieved through the use of effective communication skills. In particular, these skills include understanding of other's communication, active hearing, emotional intelligence as well as effective conflict management. Conclusions: Ιmproved communication between surgical staff achieves positive results for the patient.
