Introduction: Scientific studies report that critical ill patients in Intensive Care Units develop intra abdominal hypertension (IAH) and abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS), with a high risk of association with new organ dysfunction and mortality. In 2004 the World Society of Abdominal Compartment Syndrome recommended the measurement of intra abdominal pressure (IAP) in completely supine position.
