Abstract:
Introduction: Music as therapeutic intervention seems to be inextricably linked to health and to be mediated through the relationship of music with body, intellect and spirit. The aim of this study was to explore and synthesize the literature according the impact of music on schizophrenia. Methodology: The methodology followed included searching for research data, which was collected through electronic databases Pub-Med, Google Scholar, Medline, Research-Gate. Results: A thorough review of research studies revealed that music positively contributes to the outcome of schizo-phrenia. In particular, it has a therapeutic effect by contributing to: the remission of symptoms, the expression of emotions, the reduction of social isolation, the increase of interest in social activities, the opening of communication channels, the externalization of negative images, the transformation of anger and aggression into creativity, the in-creasing cooperation, solving issues that patients find difficult to manage verbally and improving the therapeutic pro-cess. Conclusions: Music promotes mental well-being and is a useful therapeutic tool that contributes positively to the holistic approach to schizophrenia.
